That is the whole product. The buyer chooses the amount on your own page, writes who the card is to and from, and pays. A moment later the gift card is in the recipient's inbox with your shop on it — no card stock, no inventory, and no cards lost in a drawer before anyone gets to use them.

The buyer chooses the amount
You decide what can be bought: an open amount within a range you set yourself, or fixed cards for one particular thing. Below 100.00 kr. Kuvert does not sell a gift card — that is the platform floor.

They write who it is for
To, from and a greeting — and a picture from your own gallery, if you have uploaded any. It is the step that turns the purchase into a gift rather than a transfer.
- 03
The card lands in the inbox
The recipient has the gift card straight away, or on the date the buyer chose. One tap puts it in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, so the code is to hand at the counter without anyone having to dig out an email.

What to know
- An open amount, or a fixed card
- An open amount lets the buyer type the figure themselves, within the range you have set. A fixed card is one particular thing at one particular price — a menu, a stay, a treatment — and it does not have to stay inside the open amount's ceiling. The two can sit side by side on the same page.
- The balance can be used over several visits
- A gift card is a balance, not a coupon. Take 240 kr. off a card of 500 kr. and the last 260 stay on the same card with the same code, and the customer can come back. That is the ordinary way to use a card, not an exception.
- 36 months' validity — the Danish legal requirement
- Every card is issued with at least 36 months' validity. You can make it longer, never shorter, and the date hangs on the card from the day it was issued — not on when the buyer happened to shop.
- The remaining balance can be claimed in cash
- The customer has the right to have a remaining balance paid out in cash, and the business may charge at most 50 kr. for it. Kuvert keeps it as its own entry type, so a payout can be told apart from a redemption afterwards — in the accounts too.
- A 14-day right of withdrawal on an unused card
- A gift card bought online is a distance sale, and the buyer can withdraw from it for 14 days as long as the card is completely unused. Take even one amount off it and the right is spent. Kuvert keeps the withdrawal as its own action, so it does not look like an ordinary refund.
- The card carries your shop, not ours
- Your logo, your colour, your header image and your own line under the name. Upload a gallery and the buyer picks the picture on the card from it. The gift card page, the card and the email all use the same one — and Kuvert's name appears only where the sender has to be recognisable.
- The code can be read out across a counter
- A code is two groups of four characters after KUV, and the alphabet holds neither a zero, an O, a one nor an I. It sounds like a detail until somebody has to dictate it over the phone or type it in one-handed at the till.
- A card you issue yourself costs nothing
- Sell a card across the counter, against an invoice or as an apology for a bad evening, and you issue it from the dashboard. No payment goes through us, and there is neither a Kuvert fee nor a Stripe fee on that trade — the card works in exactly the same way at the counter.

Frequently asked questions
How long is a gift card valid?
At least 36 months from the day it is issued — that is the Danish legal requirement, and it is also the default in Kuvert. You can give a card a longer validity, but never a shorter one.
Can the customer choose the amount themselves?
Yes, if that is what you want. You set a range and the buyer types the figure within it — never below 100.00 kr., which is Kuvert's absolute floor. If you would rather sell particular things at particular prices, you create those as fixed cards instead, and the two can happily sit on the same page.
Can a gift card be used more than once?
Yes. The card holds a balance, and you take off the amount that has to be paid. The rest stays on the card with the same code, and the new balance shows on the customer's card page — and on the card they have put in their phone's wallet — shortly after.
What if the recipient has lost the email?
Then you send the card again from the dashboard, to a different address if need be. The balance follows the card, so no new amount is issued, and the old code still works. If the recipient has put the card in their wallet, it is there whatever happened to the email.
Does the recipient have to download an app or create an account?
No. The card is a page they open from the email, with the code, the balance, the greeting and a button for Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. There is nothing to install, neither for the recipient nor for you.
Can a gift card be refunded?
The buyer can withdraw from an unused card for 14 days after the purchase, and beyond that you can refund an order yourself if you want to. The money goes back the same way it came in, and Kuvert's fee follows it back — you do not pay commission on a sale that was rolled back.
