Gift cards for restaurants, without a pad in the drawer.

December accounts for an unreasonable share of the year's gift card sales — and it's precisely where a notepad in the drawer runs out of answers. Your site sells round the clock, the card lands on the recipient's phone in seconds, and the amount is in your own account straightaway.

Four situations you know

This is the day-to-day the card needs to survive — not a feature list.

Guest calls on 23 December
They need a gift card tonight. With a physical pad, it means someone has to come to the restaurant before closing. With Kuvert, they buy on your site and have the card in their inbox before they hang up.
The table spends less than the card's value
A gift card for 1,000 kr., a bill for 640 kr. You deduct the 640 kr. in the dashboard, and the remaining 360 kr. stays on the card for the next visit. No handwritten corrections, no doubt at the till.
The company wants twenty cards for staff
They buy them themselves on your gift card site: they enter the list with names and emails, and each employee gets their own card in their inbox. Company name and CVR are on the receipt, and the purchase is kept separate from ordinary consumer sales in your accounts. You can still issue them by hand against an invoice if the company prefers to pay that way.
Guest has lost the card
The card is a code, not a piece of paper. You resend the order's card from the dashboard, and the original balance comes with it — there's nothing to reissue.
The table needs booking, not paying for
For an ordinary evening there is table booking: the guest picks a day, a party size and a time on your own page and gets a table that fits. If they cancel from the confirmation, the table is free again straight away. For an evening with a set menu and a fixed number of places — the New Year menu, the wine tasting — you sell tickets, and a ticket may cost 0 kr. too.

Most used

What matters most for restaurants

Partial redemption at the table
Deduct the amount the bill comes to. The rest stays, and the balance updates instantly on both your and the guest's screen.
MobilePay
Most Danish gift card purchases happen with MobilePay. The guest skips finding the card to buy a 500 kr. gift.
Scheduled delivery
Bought on 3 December for a birthday on 22 December? The card sends automatically on the day — not three weeks early.
Tickets for wine tastings
Sell places for tastings and themed evenings with fixed capacity, and check guests in at the door.
Roles for servers
Staff can take orders at the counter and see what has been sold. Only the owner can issue cards, change prices or see the accounting figures.
Table booking
The guest books on your page and gets a table that fits. Waiting list, reminder and guest book are included, and it is free for up to 25 bookings a month.

Open Spisehuset

Spisehuset is our demo for restaurants: a fictional business with a real Kuvert shop behind it. Their website, our button — and the shop is in test mode, so you can click around without a single krone being charged. The other four industries are nearby.

  • Restaurant

    Spisehuset

    Nordic cuisine, four courses

Table booking with a waiting list and a Christmas Eve deposit — and tickets for the New Year's menu in the same shop.

  • Hotel

    Strandhotellet

    Accommodation on the west coast

Accommodation at fixed prices, a running campaign, and the gift card in five languages.

  • Café

    Kaffebaren

    Roasted on Jagtvej since 2014

No purchase button on their own site — Kuvert places the floating button in the corner itself.

  • Spa

    Badehuset

    Sauna, bathing and stillness

A campaign that adds 20 % on top, and the shop unfolded in the middle of their own site.

  • Experiences

    Fjordtur

    Kayak, coastal walks and bonfires

A kayak tour with five ticket prices — one sold out, and one that only opens two days before departure.

  • Nightclub

    Natklubben

Friday and Saturday, until it gets light

A shop that sells nothing but tickets: two nights, 18+ on the page, the ticket and the scanner, door sales until 02 — and a waiting list on the night that has sold out.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can a guest use a gift card multiple times?

Yes. Each card has a balance, not a single-use value. You deduct the current bill amount, and the rest stays for the next visit, until the balance is spent or validity expires.

How do we redeem a card in the middle of busy service?

The guest shows the code or QR code on their phone. The server looks it up in the dashboard, enters the amount and deducts it. It requires no POS integration and no extra hardware — a phone or tablet is enough.

Can we set the amounts ourselves?

Yes. You create the products and amounts you want to sell — fixed amounts, a free amount within a range, or both side by side.

What about gift cards the guest never uses?

They sit as an outstanding obligation in your accounts until both the validity and the following cash deadline have expired. Only then is the remaining balance recognised as income, so you never record income the guest can still claim.

Can guests book a table with us?

Yes, with table booking. You set up services and tables, and the guest picks a day, a party size and a time on your own page — the page only shows the times when there is a table for them. Phone bookings and walk-ins go on the same list. It is free for up to 25 bookings a month, and the larger plans have a fixed monthly price.
